“A Scandalous Affair” – the secret love story of Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy

“A Scandalous Affair” recently made its New York City premiere in the city where Jeanette and Nelson had many a secret rendezvous. A 30-year love affair with tragic pregnancies, sexual betrayals, suicide attempts and blackmail with the music of Cole Porter, Victor Herbert and Verdi are the stuff of “A Scandalous Affair.”

Written by noted opera singer, Hallie Neill, inspired by the best-seller “Sweethearts” by Sharon Rich, this dramatic, real-life love story of screen legends Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy is laced with humor, juicy bits of gossip, great singing and surprising Hollywood history. Metropolitan Opera baritone Theodore Lambrinos is Nelson and Hallie Neill appears as Jeanette.

Promo clip: April 19, 2009, Merkin Concert Hall, New York. Raymond Hughes, as pianist Collins Smith and Patricia Bartlett is Hedda Hopper. This performance was directed by Albert Bergeret.

    What a wonderful …
What a wonderful experience to listen to these two singers. The story itself is great and the production equally excellent. How wonderful to see talent and voices with such clarity and depth. Live performance has got to be magnificent. This is something audiences could sit back and get lost in. Glorious music, glorious singing, comedy..it has it all. They are fabulous and fun. More of this would be a treat.

    The wonderful …
The wonderful voices of Hallie Neill and Ted Lambrinos bring to life the almost forgotten charm and beauty of “America’s Singing Sweethearts, Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, and the story of their secret 30-year love affair. A Scandalous Affair is a marvelous show that should not be missed! It is full of enery, hope, pathos, tragedy, and most of all, love. Ms. Neill and Mr. Lambrinos are singers blessed with world-class voices, and they bring to this show a charisma that will endure.

    I can watch this …
I can watch this over and over and never tire of hearing Hallie and Theodore singing together. Can’t wait until this show goes on tour and makes it to Chicago so I can see it in person.
